About AIA Membership
The Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand (Incorporated) is the
organisation that represents over 300 member companies or operators drawn
from the commercial aviation sector in New Zealand. The Association originated
in 1949 when agricultural operators formed a group called the “New
Zealand Aerial Work Operators Association” and in 1952 the scope
of this organisation was extended and its name became what it is today.
To accommodate the wide and diverse interests of the members, the Association
is organised into ten divisions, each with their own Chairman, Deputy-chairman
and committee. The Divisions are:
- New Zealand Agricultural Aviation Association (NZAAA) / http://www.nzaaa.co.nz/news.php
- Air Rescue/Air Ambulance
- Air Transport
- Airports
- Education & Research
- Engineering
- Flight Training
- Helicopters
- Supply and Services
- Tourist Flight Operators / http://www.touristflightoperators.co.nz
Since its inception the Association has achieved a great deal for its members, through lobbying on issues such as the Swedavia-McGregor Report which resulted in the separation of the CAA from the Ministry of Transport and other industry issues to the extent that the Association is now recognised by Government as the party to consult with over matters impacting on commercial aviation. The success of this consultation and lobby model is reflected in the savings that the Association has been able to achieve for services provided by ACC, CAA, Airways Corporation and MetService to name a few. AIA is able to show that, to date, it has been directly responsible for savings to the industry well in excess of $100 million. Many of these savings are ongoing. The Association is committed to achieve for the benefit of its members the following four major thrusts:
- Continue to enhance and promote aviation safety
- Improve the level of support from the Association’s office
- Continue to increase the membership of the Association, which increases the Association’s influence on behalf of the members
- Ensure that the development of the Civil Aviation Rules meets the needs of the Aviation sector as well as the regulatory requirement
The Association supports the New Zealand Aviation Federation, which is the umbrella organisation for all the aviation community. The combination of the AIA and other aviation groups together form a powerful lobby force in the sector, respected by Government and other organisations throughout New Zealand. Your support and participation will help the Aviation sector to continue to develop and enhance an active role in the wider community.
