New Zealand Aviation Industry Marks 1000th Plane Manufactured in Waikato Region - Celebrations held September 16 at Hamilton International Airport commemorated the 1000th aircraft manufactured in the Waikato region of New Zealand. This major milestone for the New Zealand aviation industry comes nearly 50 years after the first plane rolled off production lines at Pacific Aerospace – the successor to one of New Zealand’s first aviation companies, James Aviation. AIA Safety Recognition Awards – the first company GOLD status award was made to Beck Helicopters Ltd with Alan Beck receiving GOLD and David Beck SILVER individual awards. The specific awards were presented at the New Zealand Helicopter Association inaugural conference on July 29 in Blenheim. With the exception of Tourist Flight Operators (TFO), all other divisions of AIA are eligible for the awards.
Safety Management Systems symposium March 17/18 2009 – copies of the papers presented at the symposium are available from the AIA office at a cost of $20. The CD covers the background to SMS, its introduction, useful tools that can be applied when undertaking a hazard map of the operating environment plus views from the CAA on how SMS will be integrated into the New Zealand legislative framework. Discussion on Airways charges below five tonnes – these discussions are progressing. AIA is taking a view that, in conjunction with any price change, service delivery issues must also be concurrently addressed. We are advised that at one large flight training organisation the additional flight hours being incurred through delays and diverts are well over 9,000 per year.
Aviation Industry Conference Week 2009 – this year’s conference was a major success with over 60 speakers and more than 30 companies exhibiting at the trade exhibition during the week.
