Ashok Poduval

Education and Research - Chair
Ashok Poduval is the CEO of the Massey University School of Aviation. He joined the School of Aviation in February 2005, and has re-positioned the school, with a renewed emphasis on leading edge research, best practices and contribution to the aviation industry, both nationally and internationally. His broad spectrum of experience includes positions of Head of Human Resources, Head of Corporate Training and Development, and Manager Human Factors Program with Gulf Air, and Director Flight Operations and Safety Services with International Air Transport Association. He is currently on the Governing Council of the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand (AIA), and is also the Chairman of the AIA Safety Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Aviation Education and Research Division, and Chairman of the Safety Management System Implementation Working Group. Industry Experience

Ashok brings a wealth of aviation industry experience to the University, with his practical background as a professional airline pilot, senior management experience in the airline industry, and tertiary qualifications in aeronautics and business administration.
 
During his four-year tenure with IATA, he was involved with global industry issues relating to airline flight operations and safety, including the IATA Airline Safety Audit programme and the Global Safety Data Base project, STEADES. He was also the Secretary to various IATA committees and working groups, such as the Flight Operations Committee, the Safety Committee, the Human Factors Working Group and the Flight Crew Training Working Group, and has designed and conducted a number of international workshops on aviation safety and human factors.
 
As Manager, Human Factors Program, with Gulf Air, and training captain on A-320 and B-737 aircraft with more than 12,000 hours of airline flying experience, he developed and conducted a ‘human factors’ programme for Gulf Air, and has written and presented papers on aviation safety at various international seminars. His varied experience also extends across corporate training and employee development, and human resource management, and he has been the Head of Human Resources with Gulf Air for some years.
